Valdes: " The mood in the squad is good"
FC Barcelona goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, has been speaking ahead of Spain’s international friendly with Venezuela tonight, with the Barça shot-stopper explaining that the mood in the Spain camp is a good one, despite the many challenges faced this season by those who play their football in Barcelona and Madrid.
Speaking to Angel Rodriguez, Valdes said, “The mood in the squad is very good. Of course the atmosphere from what has already been is still present but it is not good, in football, to carry with us the things that have happened over the last year.”
Referring to the fact that he is set to start in goal for tonight’s friendly, Valdes was clearly pleased, saying, “To be at the head of the Spanish team is one of my goals. I see the opportunity tonight as a reward for the good work I have been doing, especially considering the group we have here, and for me it is a very exciting time.”
Asked about next season’s Spanish Super Cup, in which Barça will once again take on their great rivals Real Madrid, the Barça number one seemed quietly confident. “It will be a very intense start to the season. It’s nice to be there to compete for the Supercopa. We start the season with all new challenges. The last few seasons have been a very close fight between Barça and Madrid, and this season will be the same.“
